So if there is one thing that I have learned about myself, it is that I am constantly telling myself I'll just do it later. I am a procrastinator to the letter. That was the exact reason that I decided to start blogging in the first place. So that I wouldn't say, "Oh, I'll just write that down later." Here it is almost a full year after starting this blog, and I'm looking at post number 3. Oh well, this time will be different. ;)
Today, Nicolas, Naomi, and I went over to Auntie Pam's house. Pam and her family are Nicolas' most favorite people in the whole wide world outside of his own family. Pam's children (Luke, Ava, and Sydney) are some of the most beautiful children I have ever met, both inside and out. I am constantly amazed that I met this lovely family standing in line for coffee almost 3 years ago. I find my good friend, Pam, to be a constant source of inspiration, motivation, and encouragement. Nicolas and Ava can literally play together for hours and hours on end, and never tire of each other or snark at each other. It warms my heart to see such a dear friendship being cultivated right in front of my eyes. Sydney, who views herself as ever the baby, took Naomi's hands and led her around the great room today. Luke has a constant running tab of where every one is and what they are doing, even if he's absorbed in his own bigger kid activities. I have just never felt such a mesh of families in my adult life.
When I was growing up, I had a second family. Tom and Ski and their two daughters, Julie and Carolyn, were my second family. We often joked that Ski was my "other mother" and that my Mom was Julie and Carolyn's "other mother." When my parents would take me over for a casual dinner, they would inevitably find all three of us girls tangled up in bed late at night, hoping that I wouldn't be removed to go home. I see this very scenario coming soon to the Lass household and mine as well, and I couldn't be happier about it.
While we were visiting today, Pam's hubby came home and brought the mail in. Pam had received a package. Inside the box were 3 inch-thick hardback books. She was so excited to show them to me! Each book was for a specific child, and inside of them were all the memories she has captured over the last 2 years in her blog. She created books for each of them that compiled all of the blog posts that had a specific childs name in them. While I flipped through the books, seeing all those memories, I was inspired and motivated to get back to my blog and fulfill the promise I made to myself to stop forgetting the moments.
Thank you, Pam Lass, for encouraging me to be a better version of myself every day. You are a lovely friend, and I am blessed to have such a light in my life. <3
There are moments every day that I know will eventually become distant memories. It terrifies me to think I'll forget them. It's the little tiny things that my kids don't think I see, the subtle look in my husband's eyes that make me know I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, and the daily inspiration that my friends and family provide me. I feel an immense need to capture them all, so here is where I will compile the moments that make up my story.

Food for thought
I was sitting at the breakfast table this morning and had one of those dazed moments where I realized I was remembering something from a long time ago again. I said, "Self, you need to use your blog for these things!" LOL
Nicolas is really just a super well mannered kid. I'm so impressed by him every single day. This morning for breakfast he had a homemade waffle with peanut butter smeared on top. He finished eating his waffle and started pointing at my bowl of cereal. This has become his routine, to have a little bit of everyone else's meal. After the first bite though, he pointed and said, "Mo pees" I love that he asks for another bite by saying "more, please!" How cute is that?! Anyway, the moment that popped into my head during this, was that when he first started eating solid foods he used to put his thumb in his mouth after every single bite to help him swallow. It made me laugh when he did that, it still does. I love to watch him figure out his own little solutions. I'm curious to see how Naomi handles the same situations, no doubt it will be quite different from her brother!
As I sit here typing this, Nicolas has emptied out my kitchen for the umpteenth time. He's got a plastic pitcher, a large plastic spoon, some tupperware, the pot holders, and my small nonstick skillet. He went and collected all of the plastic balls that go to his Thomas the Train ride-on toy, and is pretending to crack them open like eggs into the skillet. His imagination is running wild, and now I must go foster that. MMM, egg balls for my second breakfast. Delicious!!

Day 1
Today is the day that I say no more forgetting. Not many people know this about me, but I'm terrified of forgetting the wonderful experiences I live on a daily basis. I constantly find myself staring off blankly, remembered something that happened years ago, wondering why the memory hasn't surfaced until right then. I'm hoping that I'll commit to keeping this updated, so I can easily look back and see all my moments.
With 2 beautiful children in tow now, I find myself even more desperate to hang on to the moments of my everyday life with them. It's so easy to get caught up in just moving through the schedule of the day. We wake up, we have breakfast, there's playtime, lunch, naps, playtime, snack, playtime, dinner, baths, and then bedtime. I find myself going through the motions some days. What I somtimes fail to realize, are the little moments within those days that make me smile, or make me think, or make me break into tears (whether from laughter or frustration!)
Yesterday, September 18th, was the very first time that my son ever told me that he loved me. It took me by complete surprise! I've been bragging lately that he's adding words at light speed now, but to hear him tell me in his little voice, that he loved me? It melted my heart in a way I didn't know was possible. I am forever changed as a person, just by hearing "wuv you" from him.
Anyway, that's the moment that I needed to capture today. I never want to forget when that moment occurred. I know I'll never forget hearing it, or the way it made me feel, but it's important to me to be able to recreate his little timeline.
I hope to shine the light on my little moments, so that you'll be inspired to hold on to your moments too. I'm happy to know that I'm finally in a place where I can slow down and love my life!
My little love bug!
