So if there is one thing that I have learned about myself, it is that I am constantly telling myself I'll just do it later. I am a procrastinator to the letter. That was the exact reason that I decided to start blogging in the first place. So that I wouldn't say, "Oh, I'll just write that down later." Here it is almost a full year after starting this blog, and I'm looking at post number 3. Oh well, this time will be different. ;)
Today, Nicolas, Naomi, and I went over to Auntie Pam's house. Pam and her family are Nicolas' most favorite people in the whole wide world outside of his own family. Pam's children (Luke, Ava, and Sydney) are some of the most beautiful children I have ever met, both inside and out. I am constantly amazed that I met this lovely family standing in line for coffee almost 3 years ago. I find my good friend, Pam, to be a constant source of inspiration, motivation, and encouragement. Nicolas and Ava can literally play together for hours and hours on end, and never tire of each other or snark at each other. It warms my heart to see such a dear friendship being cultivated right in front of my eyes. Sydney, who views herself as ever the baby, took Naomi's hands and led her around the great room today. Luke has a constant running tab of where every one is and what they are doing, even if he's absorbed in his own bigger kid activities. I have just never felt such a mesh of families in my adult life.
When I was growing up, I had a second family. Tom and Ski and their two daughters, Julie and Carolyn, were my second family. We often joked that Ski was my "other mother" and that my Mom was Julie and Carolyn's "other mother." When my parents would take me over for a casual dinner, they would inevitably find all three of us girls tangled up in bed late at night, hoping that I wouldn't be removed to go home. I see this very scenario coming soon to the Lass household and mine as well, and I couldn't be happier about it.
While we were visiting today, Pam's hubby came home and brought the mail in. Pam had received a package. Inside the box were 3 inch-thick hardback books. She was so excited to show them to me! Each book was for a specific child, and inside of them were all the memories she has captured over the last 2 years in her blog. She created books for each of them that compiled all of the blog posts that had a specific childs name in them. While I flipped through the books, seeing all those memories, I was inspired and motivated to get back to my blog and fulfill the promise I made to myself to stop forgetting the moments.
Thank you, Pam Lass, for encouraging me to be a better version of myself every day. You are a lovely friend, and I am blessed to have such a light in my life. <3
